BERGEN (GERMANY)
The beginnings of the town go back to the year 1197 when Bergen was a small parish. Then the settlement transformed into a key center of church, administration and court life. In the years 1354 and 1796 huge fires resulted in serious damage in the town. Thanks to the agrarian reform in the 19th century as well as connecting Bergen to a narrow-gauge railway line in 1902, the town experienced its further development. Between the years 1935-1936, a military training ground was created in Bergen and after World War II a NATO training ground. Bergen was granted a town charter in 1957. At present the sectors of the economy which play an important role in Bergen are agriculture, industry and trade.
